For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
How do mastiffs and children get along? In our experience, we can only say great things. Mastiffs are gentle, protective, sweet, family dogs. they love everyone in the family especially the kids because they are so playful.
Just remember to be responsible with small children around any large breed. Supervise and train your children to respect and treat the dog well.

English Mastiffs are calm and affectionate companions for the whole family and they are also good guard dogs. They need to be loved by the whole family for good development. English Mastiffs need to please their masters.

English Mastiffs Care

English Mastiffs are not outside dogs by choice. Most tend to be inside dogs that live for a good lap or couch to sleep on. They are susceptible to heat stroke and therefore cannot be left outside untended during hot weather. They bond strongly to a family and become depressed when kept away. They are a member of the family and want to be treated as such.

Food

Nutrition is very important to the English Mastiff. Overfeeding is harmful. Mastiffs are genetically programmed to become big and overfeeding them as puppies will not make them any larger as adults, but it can cause growth problems that are potentially crippling. Most quality commercial dog foods that can be found at pet stores are acceptable and watching the condition of your puppy will help you determine the amount of food to give. Puppies should be kept lean enough so that you can see the last two ribs, but not so lean that all the ribs are easily visible. When using a quality dog food it is not necessary to supplement with vitamins and minerals as the dog food is specially balanced for dogs.

Health

Like any other dog, Mastiffs require the usual series of vaccinations as a puppy and yearly boosters. Your veterinarian can inform you of the shots that are recommended.

A nice comfortable place of his own where he can go to when he needs to relax without any disturbance is important. Such a place will give your dog privacy he wants, but it shouldn't be to far away from the family. English Mastiffs are very dependent on their owners, and need to be close to them as much as they can!

Training

All Mastiff puppies should be taken to at least puppy obedience classes, not only to learn the basic commands but to also socialize around people and other dogs. Training your English Mastiff to socialize can help prevent temperament problems later when he is older, bigger, and more set in his ways.
